Garden UK ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we handle personal data.

01

What we collect

Analytics data

We use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID: G-9YHSSHGJW1) to understand how visitors use our site.

Google Analytics collects:

  • Pages you visit and how long you spend on them.
  • Your approximate country and city, not your exact address.
  • Your device type, browser and screen size.
  • How you reached our site, such as search or a direct link.

Google Analytics is loaded through Cloudflare Zaraz. It sends events from the network edge.

First-party cookies distinguish visitors, and IP anonymisation is enabled. We do not use this data for advertising.

Analytics data is shared only with Google and Cloudflare where needed to provide these services.

Newsletter subscriptions

Mailchimp collects your email address when you subscribe to our monthly gardening newsletter.

We use that address only to send the newsletter. We do not share it with anyone else.

You can unsubscribe using the link in every email.

Messages and enquiries

If you contact us, we keep the information you send and the details needed to answer you. This can include your name, business name, email address, telephone number and the content of your message.

02

Directory listings and business accounts

Our directory contains information about gardening businesses. A listing can include a business name, trading address or service area, telephone number, website, social profiles, services, opening information and images.

We obtain this information from the business, its public website or social profile, public business registers and public map listings. We check information against sources such as Google Maps and Companies House where appropriate.

When someone claims or upgrades a listing, we also keep account details, ownership evidence, listing edits, support messages and payment status. Card details are handled by the payment provider and are not stored by Garden UK.

Private listing previews are created to show a business what an upgraded page could look like. They are marked not to appear in search engines. Draft wording and images are not treated as approved public listing content until the business confirms them.

03

Business contact data and directory invitations

We may use public business contact details to tell a UK limited company about its existing Garden UK listing and invite it to claim, correct or upgrade that listing.

The details can come from the company’s website, public map profile or Companies House record. We record the source, company type, permitted contact route, contact history and any request not to be contacted.

Our lawful basis is legitimate interests: keeping a useful business directory accurate and offering relevant listing services to corporate businesses. Before contact, we balance that interest against privacy expectations, minimise the data used and screen our own suppression list. We do not use a name-based personal mailbox where a less intrusive business route is available.

Corporate marketing emails identify Garden UK, explain why the business is being contacted and provide a simple way to stop further messages. We do not use hidden tracking pixels in these emails. We measure delivery and actions such as visiting a preview, claiming a listing or requesting an upgrade.

You can object at any time by replying to a message or emailing privacy@gardenuk.co.uk. We will stop marketing and keep only the minimum suppression record needed to respect that choice.

We do not make live marketing calls unless the number has passed the required TPS, CTPS and internal suppression checks or another valid permission applies.

04

How long we keep data

  • Unclaimed prospect records: reviewed at least every 12 months and removed when no longer accurate or necessary.
  • Marketing activity: normally kept for up to 24 months so we can manage follow-ups and demonstrate compliance.
  • Suppression records: kept while needed to ensure we do not contact someone who has objected.
  • Directory accounts and upgrades: kept while the account or listing is active, then retained only as required for support, legal and accounting purposes.
  • Enquiries: normally kept for up to 24 months after the conversation ends.

We may keep data for longer where the law requires it or where it is needed to resolve a dispute.
